Dubai, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar will open the Indonesia Pavilion at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023 (COP28) in Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Thursday (11/30/2023) at 10:30 a.m. UAE time. Also attending the event, Deputy Chair of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat who will give an opening remark.
“We plan to hold it tomorrow,” said the Director General of Forest Management Lestari of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Agus Justianto in a media briefing at the Indonesian Pavilion on Wednesday (11/29/2023).
“And of course, we hope that through the Indonesian Pavilion it will not only be attended by Indonesians, but also by all participants, both foreign and Indonesian participants,” he added.
According to Agus, there are three objectives of the Indonesian Pavilion. First, as a form of soft diplomacy to voice Indonesia’s strategies and innovations to the international world as a real manifestation of joint leadership in climate action. Second, to promote Indonesia’s climate change control programs by the Indonesian government and other parties in a constructive, integrative, and collaborative manner.
“Third, to provide opportunities for various parties to explore ideas, opportunities, and working networks in the context of strengthening Indonesia’s climate change control efforts,” said Agus.
There are several activities at the Indonesian Pavilion, including a talk show session featuring the latest developments in climate change control efforts that have been and are being carried out by various parties. Then a joint session which is a discussion session with strategic partners and friendly countries of Indonesia, and eminent person sessions where materials are presented by world figures in the field of climate change control.
Agus added, the Indonesian Pavilion also serves as a platform for bilateral meetings. There are also arts and cultural performances as a promotion of Indonesian culture to the world as well as offline and online exhibitions/displays of Indonesia’s actions.
“We also have a concept related to COP28, which is related to discussions that can be attended by 60 people. On the upper floor, there is a mini stage for non-discussion activities. Then there is also a video tron (showing a climate action promotional video clip with a maximum duration of 1 minute), and a globe that provides information related to what is being done in the context of climate action in Indonesia,” he said.
“The theme of the Indonesian Pavilion is in line with the theme of COP 28. It’s time to Unite, Act, Deliver. Indonesia’s Climate Actions: Inspiring The World,” said Agus.
The theme is then divided into four sub-themes, namely:
a. Stronger New Renewable Energy Commitment
b. Robust Climate Actions on Land Based Sectors
c. Inspiring Finance and Technology Innovations
d. Solid Collaborative Climate Actions for The Prosperity of People
“From what we have designed, we have gathered various inputs from various parties, so at the COP28 Indonesia talk show session reached a record. We held a total of 77 sessions from the beginning to the end, involving 379 speakers,” said Agus.
Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar emphasized the urgency of the Indonesian Pavilion’s presence at COP 2023.
“The Indonesian Pavilion also confirms the substance that will be negotiated (in COP28),” said Siti on the same occasion.
She gave an example of the adaptation and mitigation of climate change carried out by Indonesia.
“Inside the Indonesian Pavilion, in the many discussions by various parties, our own Indonesian people, it actually confirms this is the work of the Indonesian people, this is the greatness of the Indonesian people,” said Siti.
