Presiden Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programs, Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih/Kopdes), are being hailed as “express lanes” to expedite poverty eradication efforts. These initiatives are designed not only to alleviate poverty but also to empower individuals and promote economic self-reliance. Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), Budiman Sudjatmiko, emphasized this during a press conference, explaining President Prabowo’s vision of creating job opportunities and enhancing economic independence through these programs.

Budiman illustrated the government’s strategy using a football analogy, where the poor are likened to players who need to be equipped with skills, education, proper nutrition, and economic opportunities. The government’s role is to facilitate a smooth transition towards poverty eradication, much like moving the ball from defense to attack until the ultimate goal is achieved.

The Sekolah Rakyat boarding schools aim to break the cycle of poverty by providing children with better opportunities and aspirations. Meanwhile, the MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih initiatives offer economic benefits to entire communities. These programs are expected to create millions of jobs, benefitting various sectors like farmers, SMEs, and village-owned enterprises.

Deputy Head of BP Taskin, Nanik S. Deyang, highlighted the tangible impact of these programs on poor households, providing them with hope for independence. For example, MBG’s partnership with local producers has significantly increased job opportunities and economic value. Similarly, Kopdes Merah Putih plays a vital role in streamlining supply chains, reducing costs, and providing affordable credit to community members.

Through these initiatives, the government aims to not only alleviate poverty but also empower individuals, create job opportunities, and strengthen economic independence. These programs are seen as crucial steps towards achieving sustainable poverty eradication and economic empowerment for all Indonesians.
